Why I needed a product like this?
Over time, my pores had become clogged and bigger, making it nearly impossible to effectively cover it up with makeup. I also started to discover these tiny white bumps I get under my lower lip. When I visited my dermatologist he suggested proactive as an overall skincare solution. Even though it was a bit pricey, I decided to give it a shot as it had all the right ingredients to heal my skin from acne, blackheads and blemishes. At first the gel kind of burned when I applied it, this was because I had not used salicylic on my skin in years! I know, sounds crazy, but in the past I just did not need it. I used the (step 3) hydrator to moisturize my skin and after about it a month it bypassed the dry stage. I started to see dramatic results with the reduction of my pores to almost non-existent. The salicylic in it attacked the layers of the skin and stripped away oil and dirt. Another ingredient that does its job in exfoliating and removing dead skin cells is the lactic acid.
This was the solution I was looking for! So I maintained my night-time skin routine for about 3 months, using the dissolving gel 3 times a week. After the first three months, I reduced it to once a week. It is a great product to maintain your newly non-existent pores and blackheads. It doesn’t take much, just apply it after you wash and/or exfoliate.
About Proactiv Blackhead Dissolving Gel
Proactive has been around a while and with most of their products containing salicylic acid, I trusted that something in their formula worked for trouble skin. So when I found the mountain of blackheads on my nose, I knew I needed something strong and efficient. This is a highly medicated gel that will dissolve blackheads, stops future pimple growth, minimizes the size of present pimples, and deeply cleanses dirt and impurities.
Uses and effects
I used the blackhead gel with 1-2 times a week. After your skin has gotten used to it, you start to see the area around your nose and blackhead area are becoming softer and clearer. Basically at first it is clears up some of the dirt and pores will still be open on your face, so being consistent is a must if you want this product to show results. I continued using this 1.5-2 months before I started to see results.
It’s easy to use- I rubbed the gel in circular movement until the gel dissolves into your skin. I left it on anywhere from 3-5 minutes, not any longer. Lastly, I rinsed with warm water and patted my face dry with a micro fiber towel.
I invested a little bit of money into the whole kit. Applying the gel to the T-Zone or other problem areas twice a week after the first step of using the Skin Smoothing Exfoliator. Follow that with the Pore Targeting Treatment and the Complexion Perfecting Hydrator (Step 3).
Formulation/ Main Ingredients / Packaging
The gel comes in a 1.0 size bottle that is also convenient for traveling or road trips. I didn’t experience any spillage or over use. Salicylic acid, lactic acid, and aloe Vera are the main ingredients in the blackhead dissolving gels to bring your skin to a pore free surface. The Salicylic acid’s purpose is to get rid of acne because it penetrates deep into the skin’s layers to break down build up of oils, sebum and dirt.
The lactic acid helps by providing light and gentle skin exfoliation, to get rid of old, damaged skin cells. It also helps to speed up the skin’s natural regeneration process and reduce the number of breakouts. The aloe Vera soothes and reduces any discomfort associated with skin’s inflammation. The gel also contains bisabolo, shea and green tea extracts that helps combat corrosive oxidants just like free radicals.
What I Like about Proactiv Blackhead Dissolving Gel
I liked that this gel also promotes a fairer, radiant and well-hydrated complexion. My experience was that after a 1.5 month of consistent use, my skin was lighter with a slight glow. Again, maintenance is key, as this gel is not pure magic.
What I Don’t Like about Proactiv Blackhead Dissolving Gel
What I didn’t really like what that I did experience a little bit of irritation and dryness and irritation, but the hydrator in the kit is great. So while the whole kit lasted, I used the hydrator, but you can totally use a hydrator of your own preference. After I ran out, I used Neutrogena and it worked fine in balancing my skin.
My Personal Verdict
If you experience burning it means the medication is working and getting into your skin. If you have oil-control issues, this is probably not an ideal product. I can say this gel will help solve facial skin problems and it also maintains the skin healthy and glowing complexion. This product made me more confident, and proud of my skin. I no longer have to use layer of make up around my nose and lip to cover blackheads….because they don’t exist anymore. After all, as a woman it is necessary to have healthy and balanced lifestyle to keep up with healthy and beautiful skin.
Another great thing about the gel is that I discovered it worked for my boyfriend who was experiencing pores on his chest. He wondered if his chest would get irritated, so we put it to the test, literally. Since he was a new user, he applied a little bit of the gel sparingly to one or two small areas. He waited out 3 days to make sure it was safe to continue using it. After those three days, he knew it was totally safe to use it.
Although this just made us go through the bottle quicker, he used a dime sized thin layer after the shower. After a few weeks he saw improvements without any irritation. Granted body skin is not as sensitive as your facial skin, but this gel is good for men, women, on your face and body.
