Why I needed a product like this?
My skin has always been in great condition and I have always maintained it with facials and using high end products. Something changed two winters ago when I got really sick. The flu hit me harder than I had ever experienced for about a month. I finally saw my internal doctor and he prescribed me antibiotics for a period of three weeks. Well, the downside of getting better was the effects of the antibiotics as it resulted in my skin becoming extremely dry and sensitive.
The doctor said that was common and he recommended a brand name cleanser and moisturizer. After about a week when nothing was changing, I visited my dermatologist and he suggested using a lotion that not only hydrated, nourished but one that had an active ingredient called Cermamide. Cermacide is not only naturally living in your skin but it is a major component in the surface of your skins structure.
He gave me some samples and told me if after a week my skin was smoother and more hydrated, that I should be able to purchase it at my local drugstore, but Target, Walmart or Amazon would be my quickest go to. Luckily, Target was stocked and it has been two years since I was first introduced to this product. I am still using it to this day.
About the product/brand
The brand offers great products, such as this night time lotion to preserving skin natural protective function, which is why it’s okay to keep using it even after treating whatever your skin is going through. Their unique blend of ingredients help to replenish skin most vital needs. I am a huge fan of skin care products that have controlled release abilities, which makes Cerave a top candidate. Their ingredients penetrate the skin’s surface and locks moisture in all day!
A huge added bonus for is that if you have visible pimples it will reduce inflammation, dry out the pimple and strengthen the skins barrier.
Uses and effects
It’s recommended and best to use at night. Since skin has a tendency of naturally drying out after the shower, and my skin’s driest moments would happen post shower. So I got into the habit of using the lotion after the shower and luckily, I never experienced redness or itchiness using this product. Even though my skin has become much better now, I still maintain that routine and it seems to work the best. The lotion absorbs into your skin from the surface quickly, so it doesn’t leave your skin oily, which also means it doesn’t clog your pores.
It also helps to increase collagen, which decreases with age and sun exposure and it also helps in minimizing wrinkles. I use the Cerave AM lotion with SPF in the morning not for moisture but to protect my skin from any sun exposure.
This night time lotion also applies easily and has no offensive scent. It is simple and lightweight, making it great for wintertime. It doesn’t irritate the skin, leaving you soft, silky and smooth all day.
Formulation/ Main Ingredients
The consistency is very gel like and there is no sticky residue left behind. The formula in the night time lotion contains a blend of balms and ingredients that are beneficial to the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is one of my favorite ingredients in skin care products. It attracts water to the top layer of the skin and ensures that the skin remains hydrated over a period of time. My dermatologist suggested using products that have water listed at their first ingredient. Well…this lotion lives us to that rule. It not only contains purified water, but it has Gylcerin, Niacinamide, Ceramide and Xanthan Gum. All super yummy ingredients to nourish your skin. Hyaluronic Acid is great in general but if you live in or are visiting dry climates, Hyaluronic will be your skins best friend. Ceramides are natural to the skin and crucial to maintaining healthy and moisturized skin; and Niacinamide is an extremely effective skin-restoring ingredient that offers multiple benefits for aging.
Products with pumps ensure you get your money’s worth and you don’t waste any of its elements. The lotion comes in a 9 oz. bottle with a pump, and the pump on the packaging means that there is no contamination of the product.
What I Like about Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion
I do not need to spend time or a ridiculous amount of money in department stores anymore. I was using Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, which I substituted for Cerave. I love that I have the option of buying it in bulk. This has become an essential for my summer bag, and it’s perfect for my winter purse since skin is prone to becoming drier in the winter.
My pet peeve about night time moisturizers is the part where you lay down to go to bed and the residue not only stains your pillow but it can leak into your eyes! This does neither this nor that! An added bonus of this night time lotion is that it is great for rosacea and eczema prone skin, which my boyfriend experiences from time to time. So we both get great uses out of it. If we pump out too much, we recycle the excess to the thin skin on the back of our hands or legs, so there is no wasting involved.
What I Didn’t Like about Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion
This doesn’t happen too often, but when I travel to drier areas, I have to apply a bit more than I normally would or use another product to help with hydration.
A downfall of this product is that there is a lack of antioxidants, but that didn’t stop me from continuously using it. You can fix that by applying an antioxidant-rich serum after you have applied the night time lotion.
My Final Verdict
You can use this on your shoulder or legs if you experience dryness. I find that is has the same effect as it would on your facial skin. A major icing on the cake is that there is no age boundary or limit to using this night time lotion. You will benefit if you are older, or if you are younger. My friend’s five-year old son had eczema and this lotion has really cleared up the blemishes and it’s prevented huge outbreaks.
